2013 Storybook Trees

Please join us for a tour of this festive display of over 30 trees decorated by local families, schools, and organizations showcasing books and works of children’s literature.  Our Storybook trees exhibit is designed to promote reading and literacy,  and is appropriate for all age groups.

Volunteers Visit Hammond Harwood House, the "Jewel of Annapolis"

As part of our 2013 Guide Training Program HOF Docents are invited to join us for a visit to the spectacular Hammond Harwood House in Annapolis, Maryland. This National Historic Landmark was built in 1774 for the 25 year old tobacco planter, Matthias Hammond, and was the last building project of renowned colonial architect William Buckland.

For Volunteers: Appoquinimink Friends Meeting: Yesterday and Today

As part of our 2013 Guide Training Program, HOF Docents are invited to attend this lecture given by Mr. Harvey Zendt. Harvey is a member of the Wilmington Monthly Meeting and the Society of Friends, and Harvey is Custodian for the Odessa Friends Property. He will answer frequently asked questions about Friends Meeting and Friends who are also known as Quakers.

2013 Festive Foods: Hearth Cooking Demonstration

Join the Historic Odessa Foundation’s hearth cooks in the bustle of holiday preparations for a sumptuous Christmas feast. While parents enjoy the HOF Christmas exhibit and festive foods hearth cooking, children can join in storytelling in the Storybook Trees exhibit and then rejoin their families for holiday cookie decorating in the Collins-Sharp House.

2013 Holiday Candlelight Tour Hosted by the Curator

Get into the Christmas spirit by attending a special evening candlelight guided tour of the holiday exhibit A Madeline Christmas at the National Historic Landmark, Corbit Sharp House.  The tour will be led by the curator of the exhibit who will describe the inspirations behind each room vignette.

HOF Participates in "Christmas in Odessa"

The first "Christmas in Odessa" took place 49 years ago as a fundraiser for the Women's Club of Odessa. The purpose was to fund college scholarships for local high school seniors. With the help and cooperation of Odessa homeowners and the Historic Odessa Foundation, the Women’s Club of Odessa has provided scholarships to over 100 students.
