The Historic Odessa Foundation is now looking for volunteers to serve in a variety of roles.
Volunteers will have a chance to step back in time and experience this treasure trove of historic homes and buildings from the 18th century that are known as the Historic Houses of Odessa. Currently, the Historic Odessa Foundation is looking for:
School Tour Guides
Guides provide tours for to school groups.
Hearth Cooks
Welcome students to the 18th century kitchen.
Museum Guides
Guides provide tours for the general public and groups, and schools. Guide volunteers work three or more days per month with 12-20 hours required training.
Librarians / Archives
Volunteers for this position meet most Wednesdays and are currently involved in cataloging the research files and other library materials.
Special Events
Volunteers work periodically throughout the year as room-stationed interpreters (volunteers are provided with a script), security personnel and visitor receptionists for special programs (i.e. Christmas in Odessa).
Receptionists
This position requires work several days a month greeting and ticketing visitors. The Houses are open from March through the end of December for walking tours and visitors.
Gardeners
Gardening volunteers meet on the third Monday morning of each month. Gardening will be starting up again on March 17th, in the garden of the Corbit-Sharp House at 9:15 a.m.
A Volunteer Event Committee schedules meetings via email or telephone. The Historic Houses of Odessa holds two major events each year. These programs honor the volunteers who have given so freely of their time and expertise. The events are also designed as cultivation programs to recruit new volunteers.
