Mary Corbit Warner

Petite Exhibit: Mary, Mollie, Mrs.: Portraits of Mary Corbit Warner

Tuesday, May 23, 2023 - 10:00am to Sunday, July 23, 2023 - 4:30pm

Discover the wonderful HOF collection of portraits, photographs and silhouettes that document the 74 year lifespan of Mary Corbit Warner.

Born at Cantwell’s Bridge (Odessa) on March 26, 1848 as Mary Cowgill Corbit, she later preferred “Mollie” Corbit as there were already too many Marys in the family, and lastly she preferred the wifely practice of being known for the standing as Mrs. Edward Tatnall Warner.  She became significant for her contributions to Odessa including bringing one of her ancestral homes back to the family in 1901, documenting her family and collecting their possessions, gifting the Wilson House to the town, and thus creating one of Delaware’s first house museums.  She also became known for her collections of souvenir spoons and other interesting artifacts from her world travels.

As Mary “Mollie” Cowgill Corbit Warner passed away 100 years ago this past March, this petite exhibit will remind the community of her persona, legacy and importance to the town and museum.

This petite exhibit is included with general museum admission.
