COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT Two Lights For Tomorrow
Join the Historic Odessa Foundation in celebrating a DE250 event commemorating the start of America’s semiquincentennial (1776-2026) while commemorating Paul Revere’s midnight ride as we place two lights in our Visitor Center windows on Friday, April 18th symbolizing our commitment to our community and a brighter future for all.
Friday, April 18 dawn to dusk for the overnight lights at the HOF Visitor Center
Saturday, April 19, 10am for the community service event at the Collins-Sharp House kitchen garden
On the night of Friday, April 18, 1775, Paul Revere and William Dawes rode out from Boston to alert their fellow patriots of the movement of the British regulars. A signal—two lanterns in the tower of Christ Church—indicated that the troops were traveling via the Charles River. Other riders joined as well, creating a network across the Massachusetts countryside. These midnight rides preceded the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the start of the American Revolution.
Two hundred and fifty years later, Two Lights For Tomorrow commemorates this famous ride and uses the imagery of two shining lights today as a uniting call for citizens to serve in their communities. This national initiative encourages participation from every state and community across the country. Overnight on Friday, April 18, two lights will shine forth from statehouses across the country, including Legislative Hall in Dover.
Delaware 250 encourages the participation of all Delawareans by committing to place two lights in their windows on Friday, April 18. The following day, Saturday, April 19, join in a day of service and recommit to being a light in your own community.
A community of volunteers will assist in cleaning up the National Historic Register Collins Sharp House (c. 1700) 18th century working kitchen garden and prepare it for seasonal planting. This will include pulling weeds, pruning dead stems and leaves, mulching the soil, and repairing the perimeter fencing and raised beds. Wear your garden gloves and be ready to have some fun!
Please contact HOF at 302-378-4119 to become a volunteer for this community service event.
