The Historic Odessa Foundation archives contain numerous original letters from many of the family members who lived in the Foundation’s 18th century houses. Among them are letters from Captain Charles Corbit, son of Henry C. Corbit, to his beloved wife Louisa Anderson Corbit, daughter of Daniel Corbit and Eliza Naudain of Odessa.
When 25-year old Odessa Captain Charles Corbit rode into Westminster, Maryland, with his inexperienced 1st Delaware Cavalry just a few days before the Battle of Gettysburg, he had no idea that 24 hours away his little band would collide with famed Confederate cavalryman J. E. B. Stuart leading 6,000 Rebel horsemen... but then, Stuart had no idea that he was about to face 101 Delawareans...
As part of our 2013 Guide Training Program HOF Docents are invited to take part in a small group workshop. We will be focusing on our ceramics collection with emphasis on objects that can be directly related to the Odessa properties and the families associated with them.
Please join us for this informative workshop designed for the beginning collector. Well known “antiques picker” Jack Jacobs, who was mentored by the late George W. Thomas of Odessa, has scoured regional auctions and estate sales for last 25 years in search of extraordinary objects.
