October is here, the weather is getting colder, and the Historic Odessa Foundation has a great line up of events and exhibits to take place this month!
HOF Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every evening throughout the month of October the Historic Odessa Foundation’s buildings will be awash in pink light in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Visitors can stop by after dusk to view the landmarks in all of their pink splendor.
Shakespeare, Poe & Friends: A Night of Readings from the Dark Side
Delaware Shakespeare Festival returns to a world of specters and spirits this October with two performances of “Shakespeare, Poe & Friends: A Night of Readings from the Dark Side,” at Historic Odessa's Stone Stable.
Mapping America 1641-1900: The H. Rodney Sharp Map Collection
View colonial era maps from the H. Rodney Sharp collection. The exhibit will open on October 21st and will run through the end of December.
Many of these maps were acquired by reference to 18th century William Corbit inventories for display in the National Historic Landmark Corbit-Sharp house. Additional maps have remained in the Sharp descendant families and are on loan for this exhibit. Reproductions of some of these maps also may be seen in Cantwell’s Tavern.
The Dual Fashion exhibit, on display in the Wilson-Warner and Corbit-Sharp houses, will close on Friday, October 13 at 12:00pm. This exhibit features the collections of reproduction clothing and accessories spanning the last quarter of the 18th century through the first two decades of the 19th.
The one-of-a-kind exhibit, Capturing Light: Landscapes of the Delmarva and Beyond, will close on Sunday, October 15 at 4:30pm. See the beautiful landscape paintings of Denise Dumont on display in the Visitors Center while you still can. Denise Dumont’s paintings are inspired by the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay and by the places she’s come to know along the New England coast.
