FREE: Archaeological Society of Delaware Annual Meeting & Lecture

Saturday, May 18, 2013 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

The Historic Odessa Foundation will be hosting the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Archaeological Society of Delaware (ASD). The public is invited to attend the business meeting from 10:00am to 11:00am, as well as two lectures that will be presented from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This entire event is free.
The talk at 2:00pm will be an update of recent excavations in Avery's Rest archaeological site in Sussex  County, Delaware.
If you missed the May 8 lecture titled “Can Archaeology Help Find the Lost Corbit Tannery?” by John Bansch, you can hear this presentation at the 2:30 lecture. John is a current volunteer of the Historic Odessa Foundation and past-president of the Sussex Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Delaware (2006 to 2010).
The Lost Corbit Tannery presentation will describe how archaeology is used to find historical sites and gives a detail update on the historical research that John has been doing for the past year at the Historic Odessa Foundation on the lost Corbit tannery. The role of tanneries in the 18th Century will be explored, as well as the lives of the Corbit family tanners William, Pennell, and Daniel.  A portrait of Odessa in the 18th Century is also reviewed.
The ASD will be celebrating their 80th anniversary this year!
